♫♪♫...It's only forever.... not long ago....♪♫♪

Ok, probably tacky, but I don't care. It helps me cope with the gaping hole in my inspiration where he used to be :(

Anyway, I know I've been gone for a very long time, nearly 2 years since my last journal and 1 1/2 since my last upload.

Life has been crazy. I won't go into all the gory details so lets just say I nearly died, TWICE, and  I've moved (again) back to Arkansas. This time we found our "forever home". It's a quiet little 1 1/2 acres on a ridge over looking the Ozark foothills with plenty of room for the kids and the dogs and my garden. So ya, I'm happy for the first time in a long time.

I am back to work on my art and my website is live again if anybody cares you can check the link at the bottom of this post ;)

I finally have the room to paint again and I will be starting that soon, I also have a brand new line of bath and body products in development that will be launching soon so check the website for news on that.

TTFN!

A question for my artist friends, and this one has plagued me for a while. I've heard many times over the years, that the way to "get noticed" in the art community is to do one thing and do it well. But, to me that has always felt like trying too hard to live up to some abstract ideal of what other people *expect of you.

I don't want to be known just for my 3D work, or just for my graphic designs, or digital paintings, or jewelry. How do I find a balance between finding that recognizable style that lets people know a piece of art is a Tabz Jones or Gothic Toggs original without stifling my need to reach and grow as an artist by trying new things and mediums?

This time right here on DA. :iconmrdarkarcher: has stolen a work from my Zazzle shop and had the nerve to put his own watermark on it! My work can be seen here; www.zazzle.com/serenity_art_de… and was created in 2010. His "copy" is here; www.deviantart.com/art/Serenit…

A PSA from Mama

2 min read
OK, so... a friend over at Zazzle suggested that I use Google's reverse image search tool to see if any more of my "girls" were roaming around in places I didn't put them. >:/ Long story short, I have spent the last 4 days serving DMCA take down notices. So for the record;

1. My artwork is NOT stock. I have a stock account; :icongt-stock:
2. My work absolutely, positively is NOT available for comment tags, profile bling, avatars and any other uses y'all can come up with.
3. I do have a commercial license if you would like to use some thing in particular, don't hesitate to note me and I will let you know if the artwork you want is available for license.
4. Some of my earlier works have stock that is used under specific / exclusive license to me. Meaning, if you happen to take that artwork and use it for a tag or "bling" and those artists happen to see it, you WILL be running the possibility of being sued by not one, but possibly 2 or 3 artists at the same time. And since copyright violation is punishable in USA court by up to $25,000 and 5 years in jail PER OFFENCE, it stands to reason that stealing someone else's work is not only wrong but can be very bad for your entire life.
I am not a bitch, a horrible person, or any of the other things I have been called in the last week. I am simply an artist who is trying to make a living at something I am truly passionate about.
I am sorry if that upsets those of you that think it is OK to steal someone else's hard work and claim it as your own. And I truly feel sorry for you that your parents didn't take the time to teach you how to be a better person.

This is getting ridiculous! Every time I turn around in the Market Place at Zazzle I run across people who can't seem to understand that taking an image from Google search and pasting on products is WRONG. It does NOT belong to you and you should NOT be trying to make money off of some one else's hard work. Didn't your mother teach you not to steal?

It honestly makes me wonder how these people were raised. I'm sorry if that seems a little harsh. But dammit, I'm trying to make a living here. It's one thing to have to compete with other wonderful artists who sell their own work. That's the way it should be. But when the  thieves steal all of our work and then sell out from under us, it's not just about the money. They are undermining our reputations (especially if their products are inferior).

It should be no different under the law than an identity thief. And they should be charged as such. Our art IS our identity. It's how we are perceived by the general public. To steal that goes beyond simple copyright theft in my opinion. It amounts to impersonation, is underhanded, and deep down you KNOW what you are doing is wrong.

Instead of governments trying to take our copyrights away with things like SOPA, they should be making tougher laws to catch the crooks. THAT would bring in a lot more $$$ if that is all they care about.
